The completion workshop of the GeoKonstruct research project was successfully concluded.
On Thursday, December 6, 2024, at the facilities of CERTH in Thessaloniki, the workshop titled
“Building Information of the Future – BIM Based Construction of the Future” took place, where the
results of the GeoKonstruct research project (KMP6-0076324) were presented.
The project was implemented by GEOANALYSIS S.A. (project coordinator) in collaboration with the
Information Processing and Telecommunications Laboratory (IPTL) of CERTH, within the framework
of the Innovation Investment Plans of Central Macedonia. The project aimed to develop a new
service offering innovative digitization solutions in the construction sector by combining 3D scanning
technologies, BIM (Building Information Modeling), and augmented reality (AR).
In the first part of the workshop, the BIM methodology and its prospects for the construction industry
in Greece were discussed. The actions and results of the project were then presented, with
emphasis on the technological innovations developed in the areas of 3D data collection for BIM
modeling, web applications, and augmented reality for BIM.
In the second part of the workshop, a detailed presentation of the comprehensive “Geokonstruct”
service was made, which will be offered by GEOANALYSIS S.A. upon completion of the project.
This service will include accurate 3D scanning of buildings, BIM model generation, a web
application for BIM management and visualization, and finally, an AR application for displaying the
BIM model in real space.
In the final part of the workshop, all attendees had the opportunity to watch a live demonstration of
the AR application developed for the project at the “Smart Home” space of IPTL/CERTH and
evaluate the multiple benefits of using AR and BIM for both existing buildings and for renovations,
maintenance, and new constructions.
The event was honored by the presence of representatives from the academic/research community
and the construction industry.
